Raiders Night

This is a very powerful book for very mature teens. Matt is a team captain on the Raiders football team. He gets buzzed on Vicodin and booze, and takes steroids. Football is everything. His father is intent on making sure his son goes pro. At football camp on "Raider's Night," some gritty, unspeakable initiation takes place. Some get upset. More cover it up. A very dark look at the underbelly of high school sports and the ugliness that emerges when weak boys try to convince themselves they are men, and the men around them offer them nothing real to hold onto. Ages 14 and up
