Four years ago when a meteor crashed into the moon lives were changed forever. As Jon Evans and his family leave Pennsylvania to find a better life he is continually haunted by the deaths of those he loved. When Julie died everyone agreed that Jon should be given her pass which allowed him to live in the ‘Claver’ community of Sexton. He may have lived in Sexton but because he came on a pass he was considered a ‘slip’. His mother, sister Miranda and her husband Alex all lived in White Birch the ‘grub’ community. Claver’s were “elite” and had plenty of food, water and clean air. “Grubs” were at the bottom of the chain and the only thing they were good for was to work for the Clavers and grow food to keep them alive. “Slips” were somewhere in between but were never really trusted by the Clavers or the Grubs. With the world so terribly wrong, Jon seems to always be in a moral quandary. He is faced with decisions no seventeen-year-old should have to make. Then when he meets Sarah, the doctor’s daughter he finds that maybe he can love again. But he can’t get rid of the memories of Julie and what he believes he did to her. Will he ever be able to truly let go and love someone else? Will life ever be normal again for Jon or will it just get worse? As Jon watches the world around him swirl out of control he seems to lose all hope of ever finding a ‘normal’ again. 288 pages, ISBN:9780547813370, Ages 8-10 14+,Joleen Waltman Media Generalist Aberdeen High School, Aberdeen, Idaho
