The Rising has happened, and the coastal areas are now gone - flooded and fallen off into the ocean. All remaining people are crammed into the remaining space resulting in a very crowded society. So, some pioneers have moved subsea where they can claim 100 acres of the ocean floor to farm. They have designed ways to live, farm and survive on the ocean floor. They are called Dark Life. Ty is the first child that was born subsea. He meets Gemma, a Topsider, who is searching for her brother in order to permanently escape the orphanage where she lives. The subsea settlers have created a peaceful and organized system that works well for them, but a gang is now sharing the waters of the subsea with them. When the gang begins attacking settlers instead of only government ships, the settlers' lives are put in jeopardy. After Ty's chance run-in with the vicious leader Shade, he and Gemma are caught up in the search for the gang and find themselves in danger. Will they be able to find Gemma's brother and to protect the settlers from the Seablite gang? Does living on the ocean floor lead to "gifts" for the children that grow up there? Lots of intrigue and action will leave you wanting the sequel!
