Lucy's family moves a lot. Her father is a famous photographer who likes moving. When the family moves to New Hampshire at the start of the summer, Lucy is disappointed because her father will be taking off for a long trip to Arizona to photograph some endangered animal. After Lucy meets the neighbors, Emily, Nate and Grandma Lilah and goes on her first loon patrol, she begins to settle in. It helps that Nate is her age and interested on helping her with a photography contest.
This might be the last summer at the lake for Grandma Lilah, who is getting forgetful. Can Lucy help with her photographs? Each chapter is one of the required elements in the photography contest and Lucy tries to find the story for each word or phrase, hoping her photos will cause her father to notice her.
