So, what exactly does it mean to be a princess or for that matter to be a girl these days? Have we stretched the boundaries enough for our youngest "princesses-to-be" so they can imagine themselves as capable and competent and more than the sparkly (though fun) things they are wearing? It's great to put on the crown of being yourself and letting yourself sparkle through doing what you're good at and what you love. One of the matriarchs of children's literature took on the task of romping through this question with her daughter at her side. Together they give us a look at a happily diverse group of young princesses who are at home in mud, rain, grease, power tools, sports, stony towers, armor, and on the dance floor. This is a delightfully entertaining peek at all these girls having fun doing so many different things girls can do. Oh, and they do it all adorned by their own specialness and of course, a sparkly crown. Awesome for breaking stereotypes and inviting young girls to explore their own possibilities beyond the racks of the malls and limits of others mental boxes. 32 pages
