The Great Migration: Journey to the North

It's between 1915 and 1930 and word has come to the African Americans down South that there are jobs in the North. It's time to turn your back on those cotton fields and all those rules that tell you where you can and cannot go. Short poems in white font against a dark, black background whisper the hope and the courage as one person after another decides to take the chance and join the Great Migration. Will it really be better for them in the North? Will this train take them to a place filled with opportunity and where dreams will come true? As we turn the pages we hear the voices of the courageous individuals and we join them as they ride North in search of a better life. The story has its roots in the family history of the author, Eloise Greenfield. Ages 6-10
