Peace is an Offering is, quite simply, a beautiful book, and it will probably be a cherished book in many households. Particularly in this day and age of around-the-clock media coverage and active shooter drills, this book can act as balm for little souls.

The message is simple and reassuring: bad things happen, but there are things that we can do to help. Kind words, small offerings, and appreciation can help to push away darkness. Communities can come together and take care of one another. Friends can be there when you need them. Peace can be hard to find sometimes, but it’s always there. It can always be found and offered. The gentle nature of the text and the illustrations will lull little ones, making this an excellent bedtime book.

*Thoughts from a 3-year-old: My son is a very active boy who likes loud, funny stories, but this gentle one grabs his attention every time. He loves finding the little details in the pictures, and the text lulls him and brings him snuggled in close to me. It’s quickly becoming a favorite bedtime story in our house, and as he gets older it might serve as a good conversation starter as well.
