It's amazing how important things are when you don't have them. It's also amazing how easy it is to take for granted what we do have.

School and libraries and books are pretty routine and expected in the lives of many children.  But there are places in the world where owning our own book is like having treasure and going to school is expensive and  the privilege of only the lucky few.

This is the story of a young girl, Ana, who lives high in the mountains of Colombia. She owns one book and she wishes for more stories but her teacher is gone and there is not one to give her books anymore.

Then, one magical day, she sees two burros coming up the path.  The man riding the burros turns out to be a librarian.  Incredibly he is bringing books with him to share.

How far would you go to get a book?  Back matter offers glimpses of how far librarians in some parts of the world go to deliver books to children who dream of having their own books to hold.
