Christmas is coming.  Danny lives with his mother and his little brother Joe in a trailer near the highway.  They have enough money for presents this year but there isn't any money left over to buy a tree.  At Danny's school there is a Christmas tree in the lobby covered with bright lights.  Danny wishes he could get a tree for the trailer so little Joe could see the magic for himself.

At school Danny and his friend Steve are in the school Christmas pageant.  Danny is one of the Three Kings and Steve is a shepherd.  The two boys get into a fight over who has the more important role and Danny tells Steve the story his old grannie told him about the Three Kings who are "still traveling the world, carrying presents."

Steven generously shares one of the trees in his own backyard with Danny who turns to pull it home through heavy snow.  But Danny is about to discover the power of wonder in our world. Through his generous heart he will find himself touched my a magical mystery.

This is a lovely story to read aloud with children to help them feel the magic and mystery of the holiday season.
