Take a square, cut it into seven pieces each called tans, and then arrange those pieces into different patterns and you have yourself a tangram. In this warm, soft story, based on this old Chinese tradition, a grandfather and his granddaughter share some magical time together. Grandfather spins the tale of two fox fairies, represented by the tans, who change shape into different animals. One becomes a rabbit so the other becomes a dog and the chase is on. The competition escalates until they find themselves in a dangerous spot that will require a bit of teamwork if they are to create a happy ending. 32 pages
