This bedtime alphabet book begins and ends with a poem as a mother tries to get her reluctant child to settle down for the night by recounting the many different ways that animals sleep.
Introducing read-to-me listeners to animals both familiar and unusual, she tells of those who sleep at night and those who sleep in daytime. Some sleep standing, others curled up tight, some floating and some flopped out flat.
Young listeners will enjoy spotting the animals who are falling asleep in the bedroom during the story and must be drowsing in the child’s dreams as well.
The detailed watercolor illustrations result in charming animals, although the human mother and child renderings are less successful. But it’s the animals that children will want to see over and over, alone and in families, in nests and under the stars, from Antelope to Otter to Urubu to zzzzZebra.
