My Japan

Meet Yumi, a seven year old Japanese girl who lives near Tokyo with her family. So, what is different about growing up in Japan? Is her house like your house? Using a cutaway of her house, we can see inside each room to see how the family sleeps, eats and lives. Then taking each room one at a time, we explore what it's like to live there. In Japan people sleep on futons and the family has a whole closet of them. Do you carry a backpack to school everyday? What did you have for dinner last night? Did you eat ramen? Maybe a hamburger? Maybe you had a plate full of sukiyaki? Some things about Yumi's house will look familiar to us and some things will look different. Her customs and her holidays might be different too. This is a great look at the land of 3,000 islands and it culture which after reading this book will not seem quite so far away. Ages 4-8 40 pages
