Starkly drawn illustrations mirror the anxious mood of this little guy who has gone to bed yet again knowing full well there is a monster lurking under his bed. Just the eyes are visible to us in the darkness. As his imagination kicks in, the monster goes from one to two monsters to three monsters and grows bigger and bigger and changes colors even. Are they coming to eat him? How close are they? The scary feeling gets bigger and bigger until the little guy spots the flashlight that Mom has left on the chest next to his bed just in case of monsters. Suddenly, the whole scene changes as Simon finds the monster and gets a chance to show his little brother, Alex, just how brave he is. Monsters schmonsters. Who cares!
