Sometimes you open a picture book and you realize you are holding a work of art and that's exactly how I felt as I opened this one. Gennady Spirin illustrates like nobody else. His work is breathtaking. The illustrations in this book are actually pieces of a 40" by 39" tempera painting. Each illustration is enclosed in an arch so it looks as though you are gazing into a different window on to a part of Jesus' life. The verses begin with The Annunciation and include thirteen events in the path of his life ending with The Ascension. It has a feel of an illuminated manuscript of old and the richness of the painting offers a dignity and a formality to the narrative. Quite grand and quite sumptuous. 46 pages Ages 7-11
