Can a man, two burros and a pile of books make a difference in the world? Come with me to the bright and cheerful world of Louis Soriana, a real man who lives in Colombia, South America. Luis is a man who loves books and who understands the importance and wonder of stories. Luis has many books and his wife, Diana, wishes the house had a bit more room and a bit fewer books.
From his bright mind comes an even brighter idea as Luis decides to share his books with children in the mountains who do not have many books. He buys two burros, Alfa and Beto, and hangs signs around their necks: Biblioburro: "The Burro Library."
Together, he and his wife fill crates and load the burros. Then, Luis sets out on an adventure through forests, and up hills and even crossing the path of a bandit. When he arrives in the town of El Tormento, the children are so excited to see him and to hear him read a story. He shares his books and gathers his burros to make his way home where he will get his own book to read. "And far away in the hills, candles and lanterns burn as the children read borrowed books dep into their night, too."
This journey takes us to the bright, happy place where stories flourish and are shared across the boundaries of geography and culture. No matter where you are in the world a book is a wonderful thing.
