Emma loves to watch the silk trains roar through her town. by Julie Lawson and illus by Paul Mombourquette Then, one day she comes home from school and learns that a silker has derailed and there's a reward of five dollars for every bale of silk they find in the river. Emma is determined to find some great silk. She searches and searches every day. Then, one day she catches sight of something red in the water. Could it be? Yes, it's silk. Emma wakes in but as she reaches for it she falls in. The river sweeps her away. Emma is really frightened. Finally she washes up on a little sand island. There, she wonders how will someone find her there? Then, she gets an idea and she ties her red silk to the trees on her island and waits as the trains come roaring past. Has anyone seen her? Will they find her?
