Franklin is bragging in this gentle story and unfortunately, his brag isn't true. He says he can "swallow 76 flies in the blink of an eye." But, his friends don't believe him and they are going to make him prove it. Oooh, what an uncomfortable place Franklin finds himself in. Maybe this lying/bragging thing isn't the best way.
