They have gathered together to hide under flaps and pop up from the page, bringing surprise and touchable art for small hands to enjoy. Bugs of all color and description grace the pages. When a young reader asked David Carter where his ideas come from for his bug books, David recalled that as a boy he used to love to go out into the wide open spaces around his home in Utah, and lift up rocks and logs to see what bugs would be hiding there. It was always a wonderful surprise to find something new. He brings that same curiosity and playfulness to his bug books. We are the ones who get to lift the "rocks" and the "logs" to see what is lurking beneath.
