Wolfsbane (Nightshade, Book 2)

Wolfsbane is the sequel to Nightshade, book #1 in Andrea Cremer’s new series. You really need to read the first book to completely understand the first part of this book.

Calla wakes up in her enemy’s lair not knowing if she is going to live or die. She remembers she had fallen in love with Shay, rescued him and turned him into a man-wolf. Where is he? The Searchers make her an offer that will allow her to save her wolf pack and have a chance at saving Ren, the man she was mated to and left to save Shay. Who does she really love-Shay or Ren?

By working together Calla, Shay and the Searchers go back to Vail to rescue the pack and Ren, only to end up in a very intense battle that may kill some of their people. As relationships and trusts are formed and tested, it will take many battles to see if they can end the war.

Does Calla who is now in control of her own life have what it takes to rescue her pack and Ren? Can she ever truly trust everyone when she is betrayed by people she loves? Calla has to deal with many deep emotions in this book while at the same time go into battles that will test her to the core. This book has plenty to keep you reading and really leaves you hanging and desperately waiting for book #3.

Librarian's Note:  I have seen Nightshade in many different places this last year. I am struggling with how many of the new choices of books are paranormal (vampires, werewolves, fairies). I feel like it is washing out the other genres. But then it was fantasy when I started in the library 14 years ago. And it will change again in time.

I have not read book #1 so the first part of this book was a little confusing. Thanks to the flashbacks that Calla had it did give me an idea of what the first book might be about. Once the story really started the book was very good. Once again for our small school it was nice to see one with limited sex, violence and swearing. That is what a lot of my students want in their books.
