Small Steps

It's 1949 and seventh grader Peg is making her way through the school hallways when she feels her leg muscles begin to cramp and go out from under her.  She collapses and is taken to the doctor where she is diagnosed with polio.  Her high hopes for the Homecoming festivities sent plummeting to the Earth.

This is the honestly told story of how Peg Kehret learned of her diagnosis and journeyed through the pain and fear of her treatment.

What was it like to become paralyzed?  How did she cope with the challenges?  How did her family and friends support her?

A vivid memoir that will captivate children who wonder what if.
