It was the 1930s, and many families had lots of kids. But only one family had enough to field a baseball team...with three on the bench! The Acerras loved the game, but more important, they care for and supported one another and stayed together as a team. Nothing life threw their way could stop them.
The Acerra family had sixteen children: 12 boys an 4 girls. All the brothers played baseball. In 1938, the brothers formed their own semi-professional baseball team and competed against other New Jersey Teams. The author includes some notes about the research that went into this book. From the 1860’s to the 1940’s, there were twenty-nine baseball teams made up entirely of brothers. The Acerra brothers played together for the longest. This is a fantastic slice of baseball history that should not be ignored. Both boys and girls will enjoy this picture biography.
