In this biography, readers meet Lipman Pike, a young Jewish boy living in 19^th century New York. Lipman is fast as a racehorse, and soon discovers baseball, or Base as it is called. When he gets a chance to play professionally, he reminds his Jewish father that he left Europe to follow his dreams, and Lipman should be allowed to follow his dreams as well. This book makes a great read aloud to sports fans and history fans alike. In fact, kids won’t even realize they are getting a history lesson.
