Growing up in Upstate New York, Amy Vedder loved to be outdoors swimming and sailing and exploring. As she got older, she tried basketball, softball and cheerleading and graduated from high school at the top of her class. Where would her path lead her? Which of her loves would she follow, math or biology? Amy applied to Swarthmore College and was accepted. While there she met a student named Bill Weber, a jock, who eventually became her husband. Together they joined the Peace Corps and headed to Africa to make a difference in the world. Amy and Bill fell in love with the mountain gorillas and after their Peace Corps stint was over, they returned to Africa to study the mountain gorillas and protect them from extinction. This is another biography in the Women's Adventures in Science series that is designed to open the door to science for our girls. 128 pages Ages 9-14
