How did Curious George and his authors escape the Nazis? This book will answer the question. It starts with a description of Margret and Hans's childhoods in Germany. Both children knew they wanted to be artists at a very early age. After Hans served in the Germany army, he met Margret on a trip to Brazil. They became a team of artists and finally married each other. They honeymooned in Paris and decided to become children book artists, but the difficulties of World War II were becoming obvious. They created a new book Whiteblack the Penguin, but Germany invaded France and they had to escape from Paris. Using a bicycle, a train and help from other people, they traveled through Spain to Lisbon. They even had to persuade an official to help them by reading the Whiteblack the Penguin book aloud. After a boat trip across the Atlantic Ocean, they returned to Brazil to await their entrance into the United States. They finally arrived in New York City and wrote their first Curious George book. The book concludes with a brief description of the rest of their lives and a partial booklist. 80 pages Ages 9-12
