Moonbeams, Dumplings & Dragon Boats

Written in conjunction with The Children's Museum of Boston, this is a wonderful, jam-packed "Treasury of Chinese Holiday Tales, Activities & Recipes." We begin with a folktale celebrating Chinese New Year and a second tale celebrating The Lantern Festival. In the first tale the Kitchen God tells a lie that brings the wrath of the Jade Emperor down on the people first with so much rain that the land floods and then with a drought that kills off all the crops. How could the Kitchen God betray his honorable people? After these two tales, there are celebrations of Qing Ming and the Cold Foods Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival and finally the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. Alongside the insightful tales are recipes and crafts to do yourself. Everyone can experience first hand the richness of Chinese culture and tradition. 74 pages Ages 8-11
