This subtitle to this book is "How to connect with friends, find what you need, and stay safe online." This would be a great way to start the conversation with your daughter about being safe on the internet. There is a quiz on page 13 that asks some general questions to get things going. Are you safe if you're using your home computer? Then, we get into the good stuff like emoticons and net lingo ... IDK and LOL for example. It also talks about the difference between emailing something and talking with someone about it in person. There is a great deal of room for misunderstanding so you need to be extra careful if you're angry or telling someone about something that happened to you and you want to email about. There's also a chapter on cyberbullying What if you get home and find out your best friend has blocked you on her IM? What if a popular girl has emailed you and every one of the emails she sent is mean? These are great opportunities to deal with and share strategies about the realities of being online. A great resource for girls (and boys for that matter). 96 pages Ages 8-12
