Eleanor, Quiet No More

There are some women from our past who need to be part of our present and our future. Eleanor Roosevelt is one of them. She had a father who loved her and a mother who thought she was ugly. Her life blossomed when her cousin, Franklin, fell in love with her and they got married. But, even then, she was under the thumb of her mother-in-law. In time Franklin and Eleanor moved away from his mother and Eleanor had five children. Franklin came down with polio. But Eleanor Roosevelt was a courageous woman. "You must do the things you cannot do," she said. "Everyone must live their lifein their own way." Eleanor became the eyes and ears of her husband during the GreatDepression as she went out into the coal mines and visited the people who were struggling. She came back and advised her husband. "Government has a responsibility to defend the weak." "Do what you feel in your heart to be right- for you'll be criticized anyway." She was a great champion of freedom and individuals. Here is a hero for our children. 40 pages
