Moonshot: The Flight of Apollo 11

In this day and age when our young members of society are immersed in computers and cell phones and Tivo and DVRs and all these high tech things they take for granted, it's important to catch them up and help them experience what it's been like to take these giant leaps in science and one of the most important leaps of our lifetime was landing Americans on the moon in July, 1969. This is a poetic journey that begins as the astronauts walk across the launch pad to ride up into the rocket. "It climbs the summer sky. It rides a flapping cracking flame and shakes the air and shakes the earth, and makes a mighty ROAR." Are you there on that sunlit day in Florida? Are you there in the darkness of space as the Columbi locks onto Eagle and "go rushing into darkeness, flying toward the Moon, far away, cold and quiet, no air, no life, but glowing in the sky." The illustrations make you feel you are along for the ride feeling the cold and the weightlessness. Then comes the moment when "Slow and slower, low and lower, low and lower ---landing!" There is a picture of a family in front of their television watching and cheering. These are America's heroes. Beautifully done.
