During one week in June 1959, Bobby and his older brother Ricky, along with their mother and recently widowed grandmother, drive from Cleveland Ohio to Florida, stopping at Civil War battlefields along the way. When they are outside of Atlanta, their paths cross with a black family whose son has gone missing and Bobby grows increasingly aware of the differences and similarities of his broken family and the black family. Told from different points of view, this is a glimpse into the early civil rights era.
