Fire From the Rock

It's 1957 in Little Rock, Arkansas, and there is a plan to integrate Central High School with some black students. Sylvia is struggling with the decision of whether to be one of the students who brave the steps up to that new world. All around her are different opinions. Should she stay in her old school with her friends, her boyfriend, and the life she knows so well? Or should she be a hero and risk to move her people forward? Someone has to take a stand. Someone has to make things better and hopefully in a non-violent manner. Will it be Sylvia?

Great story and super-interesting way to learn about school integration in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957 - such a sad part of our history. That being said, there are heroes in this book as well, both black and white, who believe in justice and racial equality.
