Barney is a peddler who drives his horse-drawn wagon through the city streets selling potatoes, onions and apples and greeting the neighbors and letting the children climb on his horse's back. He is a part of the neighborhood. One day some men show up in the city and begin to build an overhead train track. Barney knows that things have to change so he is not upset but the day the train runs, Barney's horse gets spooked and runs off pulling the wagon behind him. Everyone sets off to catch him and when they finally do, Barney reassures him that everything will be okay. The bond of friendship is strong and reassuring. Some things change and some things can always be counted on. 32 pages An I Can Read Book Ages 4-7
