The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland In A Ship of Her Own Making
Book Information
September is bored in her world of washing pink and yellow teacups and their matching gravy boats every day so when the Green Wind blows in and selects her for a quest, she is beyond delighted. Riding on the Leopard of Little Breezes, she is off to Fairyland where she will begin by meeting two witches, Hello and Goodbye and their mutual husband, Many Thanks, a wairwulf. Fiaryland is under the power of The Marquess, a young lady not much older than September. As September proceeds on her journey, having left the Green Wind behind at the border due to a paperwork issue, she will ask the all important question, did you pick me because I am special and she will collect a most original motley crew of new friends. Turn your imagination loose, just open the doors as wide as you can and be ready for anything because this author is going to start tossing you, twisting you and surprising you with her nimble gift with words and possibilities. Early on September meets and befriends a Wyvern by the name of A-Through-L whose father was very probably a library. Ahem. You get my point. She continues and finds a Marid whose lives exist in many planes of time all in a moment. Incredibly nimble and imaginative, this adventure is ideal for children who want to follow their own imaginations to the limits and who are highly intrigued by and entertained by the possibilities conjured by others. The humor, the wordplay, the zigs and zags of this book are pure genius. Absolutely pure genius. But I caution that this is not for a young reader who seeks a simple story or a pure action adventure tale. This one is an embroidered tapestry, a work of art and a celebration of language and story. 247 pages Ages 9-12
