As a baby, Aza was left at an inn, and the owners became her family and embraced her. She has a beautiful voice, but her face leaves something to be desired. She teaches herself to throw her voice so she can make it appear to come from other people -she calls this "illusing." Now the King has become betrothed to a young girl, Ivy, and the wedding is about to take place. It's important that Ivy be able to sing beautifully, but she can't.
