A spin-off from Elise Broach's middle grade reader, MASTERPIECE, this is aimed at a much younger reader.
James has a best friend named Marvin who just happens to be a beetle. Today James is packing to go to the beach for a week. Marvin helps James with the packing but he is sad his friend will be away.
When James leaves on his trip, Marvin misses him and wonders what he'll do to pass the time. Then his cousin Elaine comes along and shows Marvin a really fun game. They're instantly headed for trouble.
The two beetles crawl into a hole in a black box and jump off inside into some soft, fluffy wood shavings. It's great until suddenly they hear a noise and they realize they are in great danger.
What is a beetle to do?
A delightful adventure into the oh so important world of friends and being different and working together to overcome obstacles. A nice early adventure story for those young readers who aren't quite ready for the full sized chapter books.
